I hand sculpted this haircomb pair out of one of the most rare and exotic woods in the world, Pink Ivory (Rhamnus zeyheri) with wonderful warm peach and pink coloring. The centerpiece for this hairpin is the wonderful intricately hand crafted sleeping beauty turquoise cabochon in a lovely rope edged sterling silver setting. It sits atop a hand, cut fit, and painstakingly inlaid turquoise wheel with 6 sections of turquoise and sterling silver spacers to highlight them beautifully. This design sits 3/8 inch proud of the surface so as to be easily viewable from all sides.
Pink Ivory - no, not the tusk from a pink elephant, :) but a beautiful wood from from Mozambique, Africa. Pink Ivory, with its watermelon pink coloring and lovely grain figure, is extremely rare and very difficult to find. It's called "the royal wood of the Zulus" because of its importance in local customs. At just over 4 1/2" inches in length, this hair comb would fit most hair types nicely, but will work especially well for fine hair or to pull part of the hair back.
