| I hand sculpt this elegant hair comb in of rare and exotic jet black Ebony wood (Diospyros crassiflora) from Africa. This piece of ebony had wonderful warm honey brown highlights so I chose to inlay a hand made disc of maple into it. The maple serves as a perfect backdrop for the centerpiece for this hair comb - a large intricate Celtic knot design with a 6mm Onyx cabochon at its center. The combination of jet black ebony, bright maple, and onyx make this a striking comb indeed!
Ebony, famous for its rich jet-black color, has been used in the finest furniture and musical instrument making for centuries. It's one of the world's most prized and expensive hardwoods! At just over 4 3/4" inches in length, this hair comb would fit most hair types nicely, but will work especially well for fine hair or to pull part of the hair back.
The Celtic knot is one of the best known motifs in Celtic jewelry and art. One of the remarkable things about Celtic knotwork is the way in which its lines typically have neither a beginning nor an end. The delicate twists and turns are found in ancient stone art and tattoos, in illuminated manuscripts in fact, just about anywhere the Celtic people have traveled. Similar designs exist in Norse culture, and as far as China.
